- 10 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks, divided (2 cups + 4 tablespoons)

- 1/2 cup + 5 tablespoons milk, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)

Prepare the Pan & Dry Mix: Grease and flour an 8‑inch cake pan. In one bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. In another, toss chocolate chips with a little flour to coat.
Make the Batter: Melt butter in the microwave, then beat with sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla and milk. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and fold in chocolate chips.
Bake the Cake: Pour batter into the prepared pan, sprinkle with extra chocolate chips if desired, and bake at 350°F for 20–23 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.
